Greetings everyone!

I am Yffar Aquino, current Membership Head of the 2009 Task Force Pride Philippines, an ever-evolving member and community-based organization of volunteers and the organizer of the annual Manila Pride March in the country.

This Bulletin is to inform you, since you may not be aware of it, that the Philippines is ALSO celebrating the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Parade.  And for this year, it will be on DECEMBER 5, 2009, SATURDAY and the tentative venue will be at MALATE, MANILA (exact venue will be announced). And we are proud to announce that this year will be the 15th YEAR of this glorious event.

For the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people who can read this message, please join us and celebrate the DIVERSITY and COLOR of the LGBT Pride in our country as we fight and push for the Anti-Discrimination Law that will be our shield from the Homophobia and other hate related violence.

We are accepting international delegates to march with us.  For the foreign people who lives outside our country, you are also invited to participate in this grand celebration. We will be more than happy to have you.

If you are not yet out but still wants to be a part of the Pride March for this year, you can wear masks to cover your face and we will ensure the safety of your identity.

Even straight people can join as long as you believe in equal rights regardless of gender preferences or you are doing this because you LOVE and SUPPORT your LGBT friends and relatives.

In short, EVERYONE IS INVITED.

So Spread the word. Tell your family and friends. Be Proud. March to the upcoming Manila Pride March 2009.

Ialay mo na ang lahat lahat ng meron ka

matupad lang ang iyong pangarap.

A N A T H E M A

Sila Ricci Chan, Joey Paras at Nar Cabico. Kung ako ang tatanungin wala akong "pinaka" paborito sa mga versions, kasi bawat isa ay may iba't ibang bersyon. Char!

Basta mganda lahat! Ikaw alin ang bet mo?

O pakinggan mo na daliiii! (Hintaying mag load. Mabagal. Salamat.)

Re-Orientation

If you're like me who's predisposed to trying different art styles, you know the disadvantage of that habit. It takes a while to get back to your core style. So here I am, reorienting my hand to my default while, at the same time, reviewing the script for the long storytelling journey ahead.

Here's a sketch--Gwyneth. More or less the final version. My hand needs a little more work, though.

Re-Orientation Part 2

I haven't drawn "large-scale" in a while. For those who don't already know, drawing a comic book at least 25% larger than the final printed size is ideal, allowing the artist to add detail without having to roll himself up into a ball over the paper.

Now I don't use those industry-standard comics drawing boards--too expensive for me. In the past, I would buy 3-ply bristol boards from National Bookstore and cut them all up manually, then line the page dimensions in with a pencil and a ruler--total draftsman work. Right now, since I'm too lazy to do any kind of board cutting, I've decided to use biggie-size sketch pads. I was able to find one brand that had the thickness and texture I needed.

My final drawing area is 24.5cm by 35cm, which will be reduced in the final printing to 7" x 10"-- a good reduction of almost 30%.

Note that the above page will NOT appear in the book. It's just my drawing test-run to see if I still "had it." It's got the perspective thing, the close-up thing, and the manga-ish distortion thing...so far, so good. Also, drawing the page allowed me to gauge my pace. So far, my speed is still okay, though I don't know how slow I'll get once I tackle the ass-spanking action scenes (and crowd scenes--yikes!).

Then that nagging thought. "Why did I give her all that hair?!!" Oh, well. She wouldn't be Zaturnnah without it.

A Slow Start Is Still A Start

I've begun to draw.

The plan is to post the first two chapters (over 40 pages) in three- to five-page weekly installments. Maybe I'll add the third chapter--depends on some marketing issues I have to iron out.

When will the first set of pages go online? I don't want to promise. But, since I'm already drawing the thing, it's going to be sooner than later. Knocking all sortsa wood.

How will the sequel be different from the first book? I'd say there will be a lot of the same and a lot that's different. Calling it an improvement may be too soon to do, but deep in my heart ("deep in my heart" daw, o!!) I believe that I've matured a bit in my storytelling and art skills. I completed the first book in early 2003--that's five whole years ago. If you were a freshman in college and you got the book when it first came out, by now you'd be part of the workforce. In my case, I've subjected myself to self-imposed do-it-yourself post-graduate studies. And it's caused me beautiful, beautiful headaches.

With that I must excuse myself. I'm going into labor. And I'm anticipating a motherload of contractions.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS BOOK! New sidekick, new adventures with Zaturnnah!

Hey guys, I'm selling two-month-old labradors. The photos here are pretty crappy because they're all so hyper (I've got seven puppies). We currently have ten dogs at home and my Parental Units can't afford to feed so many mouths. We're looking for nice, loving homes for our puppies. They've been dewormed twice and already got six-in-one shots. Prices are negotiable. Text me (09164726003) if you're interested.

(And FYI, we don't keep the puppies in a box.)

To call it a ''puppet show'' does it a disservice. '''Sesame Street' for grown-ups'' isn't right either. There's no handy way to describe ''Avenue Q,'' except as the furriest, and one of the funniest, shows you're likely ever to see. - Entertainment Weekly

You missed it the last time! Good thing, the folks at Atlantis decided to bring it back to spread more cheer. Get your tickets as early as now or be left behind!

"I started conceptualizing the Zaturnnah sequel way before the musical or the movie ever turned up. And, as I had mentioned in a previous post, putting a sequel together isn't easy especially when it wasn't in the grand plan to begin with. But here I am, halfway through the 2nd act of the sequel script, and I'm making one delicious discovery after another.

Going through my old files, I found this (click on the image to enlarge):

It's part of a scene between Ada and Lester, and it's going to be in the sequel. I drew this sometime during the first quarter of 2005--nearly three years ago!--just before I was accepted at Summit Publishing. While it's tempting to ram my head through a brick wall for being too slow, I content myself with the thought of not rushing this story through. The sequel syndrome can be a terrible thing and, with the new knowledge I've been getting over the recent years, I'm glad I waited this long. Enough about putting a story together on impulse. It's time to grow up."

Sa mga fans ni Nar Cabico, catch him perform with his group! The TP Balangaw Ensemble tonight at 9:30PM Silangan Hall, CCP! Tickets are priced at P200 and it's consumable!

The TP Balangaw Ensemble is the latest addition to TP's roster of talents. Composed of Nar Cabico, Nicco Manalo, and Leo Ponseca, these "artists who can sing" started their trio on the set of TP production Bakeretta. Their hilarious and whimsical take on popular songs became a much anticipated intermission performance. Since then the talented group captivated a wider audience in mall shows and corporate events.

"We decided on watching TP's Balangaw Ensemble (Nicco, Leo and Nar)  It was so much fun! I never expected such beautiful voices. Probably because I was just used to seeing them as taong bayans in ZZZZM. Especially Nar. Super talented. Basta ang galing nila!"

"We were asked to leave the venue for a while then were let in a few minutes afterwards for the Balangaw Ensemble's show. Those boys were hilarious as always. Ever since I first saw them perform together in
Bakeretta, I've been quite the fan."

One night only ang performance kaya huwag ng magpatumpik-tumpik pa!

Go na!

The reviews are in and as expected...people can't get enough of it!

"K Brosas as Zaturnnah is a welcoming experience. When Ada transaforms to ZsaZsa and back-- this time I 'see' one person...I liked how they added more detail in the last part 'Ikaw and Superhero ng Buhay Ko'. Very effective!...Will be back next weekend, the evening of the 24th AND on July 1st matinee with friends from the office. "Can't get enuf ano, Te!!"

- Yang

"As usual tawa pa rin ako ng tawa. Di na ata magbabago yun. In fairness, natatawa pa rin naman ako, kahit 164558155794387 times ko na napanood."

"She (K) gives a different flavor to the role (definitely!) and has an interesting delivery certain scenes...Kalila, Kalila, Kalila ... stellar as always!...Tuxqs was lovely as always! He has this role down to a tee...Nar was a breath of fresh air. I've seen him before in the cast and he seems to be a quiet and shy guy --- and now I see him as Didi. *shocker!* He had big shoes to fill! First Ricci Chan's, then Joey Paras', and guess what? The shoes fit!"

- Penny

"Per usual, the play never failed to make everyone laugh. Punchline after punchline, and the new K and Nar tandem was a hit."
